How to pack and label media for a Data Job Shop order
The main rule is simple: if one device is the source/master and the others may be overwritten, do not make Data Job Shop guess which is which.
For duplication from a physical master
- Put the source/master USB, SD card or microSD card by itself in a small bag, case or envelope.
- Label that package Master / source media — copy from this device.
- Put the destination devices in a separate bag or box and label the group Destination media — copy to these devices plus the device count, for example Destination media — 200 USBs.
- You do not need to label every destination device individually when the whole batch is identical.
If there are multiple masters or groups
Keep each pair obvious. For example:
- Master / source A — copy from this device and Destination A — 100 USBs
- Master / source B — copy from this device and Destination B — 50 SD cards
Describe the A/B relationship in the order notes as well.
For media consolidation
Group the USB/SD/microSD devices being copied from and label the group Source media — files to be copied. Keep the external HDD or SSD being copied to separate and label it Destination drive — copy files here. If there are two destination drives, distinguish them as Destination 1 and Destination 2.
Small cards and loose media
Do not ship loose microSD cards where they can move around or be lost in packaging. Use a small card case, parts bag, SD adapter case or other secure container. Group identical destination cards together.
Before closing the package
- Include the DJS order number inside the package or clearly mark it on the shipment.
- Make sure the physical media matches the quantities and roles described in the order.
- Protect devices from movement and connector damage during shipping.
- Use tracked inbound shipping when practical.
- Do not ship until the order is approved, paid, and you have received the DJS receiving address.
